Darkling

Darkling, an intense operatic theater work that explores the memory of loss and marital discord during WWII, was created for the New York City stage by Michael Comlish from a book length poem, developed in workshops spanning three years, and premiered in February, 2006.

Accoustic sounds and voices clashed with traditional operatic voices, and multilayered video projections. The production called to mind Meyerhold, Ives, Brecht, Martha Clark and Richard Foreman. It was presented in workshop at the Guggenheim Museum’s Works & Process series.

Comlish created a touring version with film recently presented Berlin and Poland in June 2007. The production is featured in Theater World.
